I was wondering why there was still no release of 4.6 but that's clear now ;)

Issue has been created.

Been away from catel for some time and good to see that I no longer have to invent EF 5 support myself :D Hope my 'old' 3.2 application doesn't 'break' in too many ways.

Is the validation complex? Maybe a check should be added to prevent a change in case the validationsummary has not changed. You can add the feature request at http://catelproject.atlassian.net. Note though that I am currently on vacation until mid June so I wont have time soon.

You can pick whatever you like.

Yes, the downside is that SL cannot reflect explicit interface events. They are private somehow (interesting, right...). I am currently on vacation so cannot look at it, but please create an issue at http://catelproject.atlassian.net so I can take a look when I get back.

It's broken at the moment. Somehow somewhere either nuget OR symbolssource broke something approx. 4 months ago. I tried to fix it once, but it was too much work and it's not high on the priority list. I am currently on holiday, but once I get back I might have another look at it. Please create an issue at http://catelproject.atlassian.net so I remember when I get back ;-)

You can put it anywhere you want. Or are you talking about the DataWindow? You always have the freedom to set the generation style to none and put it in there yourself. Then you have true freedom of control placement.

In a Silverlight 5, RIA Services project I'm trying to use the new ChangeNotificationWrapper to observe the arrival of new entities. It throws the following exception when I try to create on wrapping an EntitySet<T>.

InnerException {System.NotSupportedException: No add-method available for event 'CollectionChanged', cannot subscribe using weak events. Make sure the event is public

Are the symbols no longer present on symbolsource.org?

Debugging doesn't work and when I look at symbolsource.org I can only see symbols for catel version 3.2 and older?

Is there a new way to use catel's pdb files and if so please enlighten me :)

Hm. Ok what to do.

The IValidationSummary Property get is now called about 100 times. Everytime I change a property in a viewmodel in the nested viewmodel hierarchy.

What I need is to know if I can exceute the command in depending on the other viewmodels.

Introduction

Catel is an application development platform with the focus on MVVM (WPF, SL, WP and WinRT) and MVC (ASP.NET MVC 4). The core of Catel contains an IoC container, models, validation, memento, message mediator, argument checking, etc.

Catel.MVVM contains all the MVVM classes such as ViewModelBase, Command, services, etc.

Catel.MVC contains all the MVC classes.

Catel also provides the following extensions:

Controls
CSLA.NET
Data
Entity Framework
FluentValidation
Prism

The release cycle is very short (4 weeks), so all found features and bugs are solved within 4 weeks.

If you are not convinced yet, take a look at the MVVM comparison sheet and you will be convinced.

Core

The core library of Catel contains some very useful classes, even when not developing anything with MVVM (but, for example, a website):

Argument class (always check your input, now easy with Argument.IsNotNull("argument", argument), etc)
IoC container (with extented support for Unity, MEF, Ninject, Windsor, etc)
Memento pattern
MessageMediator (mediator pattern)
WeakEventListener (no more memory leaks, works for all target frameworks)

MVVM

The MVVM framework includes the following features that differs this project from other frameworks:

Communication with other view models via simple attributes, no messengers needed (but still, a MessageMediator is available)
Solves the nested user controls problem in MVVM, view models are created on the fly when needed based on the datacontext
UserControl<TViewModel> and DataWindow<TViewModel> that are fully compatible with the MVVM framework and easy to use

Of course, the framework also implements the features you can find in any MVVM framework:

ViewModelBase with INotifyPropertyChanged, IDataErrorInfo, INotifyDataErrorInfo support
Command (a.k.a. RelayCommand)
